On Thursday, January 23rd, Greystones Toastmasters Club will be hosting our open night, kicking off at 8 pm sharp. This will be the first open night we have held in our new venue, The Castle Inn in Newcastle, and we’re very excited to open our doors and introduce you to our club.
Toastmasters is most known for supporting people who wish to get comfortable with public speaking. The educational program is self-paced, and our club provides a supportive learning environment. You will find our club encompasses a group of people with different motivations behind joining Toastmasters, but we all have one thing in common: a desire for self-improvement.
We’ve all faced occasions where we need to deliver a presentation: be it a work presentation, a wedding speech, or presenting an award, and what better club to provide you with the guidance and support you need to get comfortable!
Not only is Toastmasters excellent for improving your public speaking skills, but the program is also designed to enhance your leadership skills. So whether you are a born leader, or want to improve your leadership skills, the program encourages you to step outside your comfort zone and take on roles that contribute towards the running of the club.
Each meeting is structured, with a variety of speaking and leadership roles. During our open night, you will get to experience a real meeting, where our four speakers will deliver speeches from various stages of the educational program. Each speaker will have an evaluator to review their speech objectives, providing them with constructive feedback so we can all continue to improve our speaking ability. Other members will take on the roles of Timekeeper, Poetmaster, Grammarian, and of course, Table Topics, during which we all get an opportunity to exercise impromptu speaking. Don’t worry, guests won’t be asked to take part – but please feel free to take part if you wish!
Our Toastmaster for the evening, Philip Devonport, will provide more information on the specific roles throughout the evening! Click here to preview the agenda.
If you are interested to learn more about Toastmasters, I would highly encourage you to come along! If you have any questions, please contact our committee on greystonestoastmasters@gmail.com, and we will get back to you.
Thank you, and we look forward to welcoming you to our club!
